Research titled “Does national sentiment affect foreign direct investment, and if so, how? Additional evidence” by Megan Yuan Li won the International Business Review (IBR) Best Journal Paper of the Year Award (2020). This award was presented to one paper each year by IBR, one of the prestigious journals in international business.
In contrast to previous research which dominantly views foreign direct investment (FDI) from a rational perspective, this paper incorporates affect into the analysis of FDI. Specifically, this study develops a new construct—national sentiment and further makes a nuanced categorization of national sentiment and compares their respective effects on FDI decisions. Answering the call for more realistic assumptions about decision makers, this study is expected to provide a plausible approach to investigating the affective aspect of FDI decisions.
