Title: Expanding Cooperation with China in Environmental Science and Systems Engineering
Report Abstract:
The research accomplishments of University Professor Keith W. Hipel within the overall domain of Environmental Science and Systems Engineering (ESSE) are put into perspective as a platform for expanding cooperation with Chinese researchers in order to address pressing complex environmental problems such as climate change and water quality. Starting in 1982 with invited presentations on environmental conflict resolution at the Institute of Systems Science within the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), Hipel has had the distinct privilege of visiting more than thirty research institutions across China during numerous visits right up until the present time. Many Chinese scholars have visited the University of Waterloo to work on joint research projects with K.W. Hipel and his research team as well as to carry out doctoral studies on topics falling under the umbrella of ESSE.
